Review: Axwell at Elephant Club

Because of the bad nightlife in Braunschweig I did it again. Yesterday me and a couple of friends drove from Braunschweig to Bielefeld which is about 180km away to see Axwell once again.

After 1,5 hours of driving we arrived at a friend’s house, changed our clothes and then we went to a bar for some eating, drinking and talking action . At 12 we left this spot and went to the area where the Elephant Club is located. It’s near the Bielefeld train station and there are also some bars, another club some restaurants and a bowling center as well.

After going to another bar called Edelweiss we hit the Elephant Club at about 1.15am. The club is based in the 2nd floor of this big building and has two different rooms and a terrace The loung is decorated and arranged in dark and looks very well. The mainroom has got a dancefloor surrounded by some bars on an increased level and one side of the room is made out of glas windows so you are able to watch the sunrise in the morning. The dj booth is built on the same level as the dancefloor and positioned in front of this glas wall and you are able to stand behind it if you are a VIP. The terrace is accessible by the mainroom and a spot near the entrance. It’s not very big but like the rest of the club it’s inviting and a very good spot to take a deep breath if it’s too hot and sweaty in the club.

At about 1.45 am the man himself, Axwell, started his set. As his first track he played -like in Düsseldorf – the bootleg of Sander van Doorns “Reach out” and the vocals of Florence The Machine’s “You’ve got the love”. He also played tracks like “Leave the world behind”, “One” withouth the Pharrell vocals, “Knas”, a really nice bootleg, maybe live mashup, of Ian Carey’s “Rise” and the unreleased Axwell remix of “The Pressure” by Stockholm Syndicate but the best thing about this gig in my opinion was, that he played the new version of his track with Errol Reid “Nothing but love for you” which I already posted last week

Some other hot tracks Axwell played were a remix of Madonna’s “Music, the massive bootleg of Steve Angello’s and AN21′s “Valodja” with Pocket 808′s “Ghostship” and the melody of “Sweet Dreams”. While he played there were some amazing visuals on the different walls showing Axwell playing live or some arrangements fitting to the song. His set was about 2 hours long and – as always – full of power! After the gig I surely took a picture with Axwell

In addition to this it was also nice that I met a guy from the SwedishHouseMafia forum (Hi Sven *g*) who I’ve already met before at a gig of Laidback Luke in Magdeburg in September 2009.

All in all Axwell nearly played the same tracks as in Düsseldorf but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good gig. It’s Axwell and this name stands for quality, very good sets, nice live mashups and he is down to earth and tries to take some time for his fans. In addition to that the location was really nice and we had a lot of fun! Thank you Bielefeld and Elephant club!

thanks to Eric of Bild2 for the pictures, Tobias and Marcus for the videos!
